DENTON - The North Texas soccer team gave up one corner kick in the second half against No. 15 Oklahoma, and it came back to haunt the Mean Green. The Sooners defeated North Texas, 2-1, in overtime after the Mean Green gave up the tying goal off a corner kick with thirty seconds left in regulation on Friday night.

"I was really proud of the girls throughout the night," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. "It hurts to be 30 seconds away from beating the 15th-ranked team in the country, but unfortunately we let them back in the game on a set piece. We will learn from this but I couldn't be more proud of my team."

The Mean Green took a 1-0 lead in the 81st minute off a Karla Pineda corner kick. The free-kick specialist sent an in-swinging corner kick from the Mean Green's attacking left into the penalty box. The dangerous ball caused confusion in the box, and the ball got past the goalkeeper for the first goal of the night.

The second goal of the night came off a corner kick as well. Rasha Roberts, the tallest player on the OU roster, rose up and flicked the ball past North Texas goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine, to tie the game at 1-1 with thirty seconds left to play in regulation.

OU shut down the Mean Green offense in the overtime periods, holding the home team to zero shots. The Sooners won the game off another set piece. Laura Rayfield picked up her second assist of the game with a free kick from 30 yards out. She lofted a ball into the box that Madeline Brem was able to control and kick past Kerestine for the gamewinner.

The game was physical, featuring 31 total fouls and three yellow cards. Despite outshooting the Sooners, 16-14, the Mean Green was held to its fewest amount of shots this season.
