WACO, Texas- North Texas suffered its first defeat of the season at the hands of the ninth-ranked team in the Central Region, the Baylor Bears, falling 2-0 at the Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field. Hanna Gilmore had the game-winner for Baylor in the 53rd minute.
"Baylor is very deep and can roll thirteen players off the bench, unfortatelly for us we had to sit three players for the game due to injuries and Baylors depth late in the game finally took its toll," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. "To beat a team like Baylor, who we have the last three times we played them, you better have a healthy, full roster otherwise, they will just wear you down like today. Hopefully we'll get Haley Dockray, Shannon Gorrie, and Leah Cox back next week when we travel to New Mexico."
North Texas, the tenth-ranked team in the South Region, falls to 5-1-1 on the season, ending a six-game unbeaten streak to start the season, while Baylor improves to 6-1-1.
North Texas and Baylor played a tense and physical first half that saw no goals, before Baylor opened the scoring in the second half.
Gilmore scored for the Bears in the 53rd minute, off of a corner kick by Hannah Dismuke. The goal was Gilmore's third of the season. Dana Larsen scored the Bears' second goal, also off of a corner kick, in the 83rd minute.
