LUBBOCK, Texas- North Texas (4-2-1) dropped a 1-0 contest to Texas Tech (6-1) in its first game of the Red Raider Classic on Friday night. Jessica Disabella scored a 84th minute goal to give the Red Raiders the victory.
"I could not be more proud of my team after the game," said North Texas Head Coach John Hedlund. "We came very close to beating the number four ranked team in the region on their home field in front of a huge crowd. I thought for a minute we were going to beat Texas Tech two years in a row."
Mandy Hall got the start in net and made two saves in the first half, and did not give up a goal. Michelle Young led the way with two shots for the Mean Green.
Nikki Crocco for North Texas and Tiffini Smith for Texas Tech received cautions in the 38th minute.
The Mean Green earned two corners to Texas Tech's one. Texas Tech had 14 shots to North Texas' nine.
North Texas wraps up the Red Raider Classic on Sunday when they take on Lamar at 11 a.m. North Texas returns to the Mean Green Soccer Field on Friday, September 17th as they take on SMU in the Livestrong Game at 7 p.m.
