DENTON -- The North Texas soccer team responded from its first loss of the season in a big way on Friday night with a 7-1 win against Texas Southern.

The game had a little bit of everything in it: early goals, hat tricks, penalty kicks and a goalkeeper assist. The Mean Green were also able to use their entire roster and save some of the starters for Sunday's game against No. 25 Arkansas.

"It was good to get everyone on the roster involved in the game," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. "Our offense created several opportunities throughout the match but most importantly we finished our chances tonight."

Senior forward Rachel Holden posted the third hat trick of her career. The first game of her career was a 9-1 victory at Texas Southern where the freshman netted a hat trick. She started scoring early in tonight's game, knocking in a pass from Taylor Torres just 26 seconds into the opening stanza.

Torres found Holden again in the 51st minute, and then after being fouled in the box, Holden converted a penalty kick to record the hat trick.

Brooke Bradley recorded an assist on the Mean Green's third goal of the game. The sophomore goalkeeper took a free kick for the Mean Green off a Tigers' offsides, and Holden found the end of the 45-yard boot outside the 18-yard box. The forward flicked the ball on to Lauryn Bruffett who finished the long play with a goal.

Bruffett's goal gave North Texas a 3-0 lead heading into half. After Texas Southern got onto the scoreboard with a penalty kick in the 49th minute, North Texas exploded for three goals in just under two minutes.

Cat Sebazco sealed the win with her first career goal off an assist by Katie Gernsbacher.
