Mean Green Soccer Wins Third Straight Game
North Texas Defeats Incarnate Word, 2-0
SAN ANTONIO -- The North Texas soccer team scored two goals at the start of the second half to race past Incarnate Word with a 2-0 victory on Friday night.
The Mean Green peppered the Incarnate Word defense all game with shots, but it wasn't until the second half that the game broke wide open. North Texas scored two goals at the start of the second period and kept the foot on the pedal the rest of the game.
The Mean Green kept the IW goalkeepers busy all night with 20 shots, 10 of them on goal, and 10 corner kicks. Nine different players took shots for North Texas.
Speedy freshman Taylor Torres started the second half and needed less than a minute to score her first career goal. She received a slotted pass from Karla Pineda and then beat the IW keeper one-on-one.
Eight minutes later, Marchelle Davis went up high on the back post and headed the ball in the net off a Pineda corner kick.
Pineda almost had another assist when Molly Grisham went up for a header on another corner kick but was thwarted by the keeper in the 74 minute. The senior midfielder then almost had a goal in the 81st minute when she rocketed a shot that the netminder had to tip over the goal.
NT's goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine faced just four shots on goal to collect her second shutout of the season.
