ABILENE – After the North Texas soccer team was held scoreless in its last game, the Mean Green offense found its footing on Friday night, defeating Abilene Christian, 2-0.

The Mean Green held the advantage in possession and shots and increased the pressure as the game wore on.

“I liked the pressure that our offense put on ACU throughout the game,” said North Texas coach John Hedlund. “The goals by Taylor and Brooke were the product of hard work by both of them the entire game.”

Hedlund went with a younger lineup, starting three freshmen, including forwards Brooke Lampe and Ariel Diaz. It was the experienced returners, however, who connected for the first goal.

Junior Taylor Torres came off the bench in the 21st minute to help jumpstart the Mean Green offense. She ran onto a long pass by Tori Phillips in the 32nd minute and put the ball into the back of the net off a one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Lampe added to the Mean Green’s lead in the 73rd minute with a long shot from 35 yards out. Her shot from the right side went to the back post.

The defense registered its second shutout of the season, and Miranda Schoening made five saves in goal.

“We will now rest up and get ready for a great home match against Texas on Sunday,” said Hedlund.
