Mean Green Soccer Wins On The Road For Second Straight Victory
North Texas Defeats Oral Roberts, 1-0
TULSA, OK -- On a warm Sunday afternoon, the North Texas soccer team needed a spark from off the bench to set up the game-winning goal in a physical, road game. Two minutes after she subbed in, freshman Dominique James set up Anna Flobeck's game-winning header to help push the Mean Green past Oral Roberts, 1-0, at Case Soccer Complex.
"It was a solid road win for us," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. "We moved Dom up top late and she was the spark we needed to set up Anna for the winning goal. Great team effort from the girls today."
With a combined 27 fouls between the two teams, the Mean Green had a hard time creating a rhythm to their game. North Texas did end up capitalizing on a foul in the Golden Eagles end of the field.
Junior Tori Phillips took one of her booming free kicks that James ran down to the endline. The freshman, who subbed in at forward after playing defense in her time with the Mean Green, kept the ball from going out of bounds and kicked a floater back across the goal.
Flobeck was there to head the ball into the back of the net to give the win to the Mean Green. The Mean Green did not have many other dangerous opportunities.
One of the best chances came in the seventh minute when Rachel Holden stole the ball from an ORU defender and took a low shot that went off the near post.
The North Texas defense posted its second straight shutout.
