Tyler Powell begins his first season as the goalkeeper coach with the North Texas women’s soccer team. Powell has coaching experience at the club, collegiate and professional level.

Powell currently works as the director of coaching for FC Dallas West Division. He was the head men’s soccer coach at Texas Wesleyan from 2011-17 before leaving to join FC Dallas. He left the Rams as the program’s coaching leader in wins with 57.

In six seasons with the Rams, Powell led the Rams to an overall record of 57-44-12 (.564) and an appearance in the NAIA National Championship opening round. Under his guidance, the program boasted 14 all-conference selections, 10 NAIA scholar-athletes and one NAIA All-American.

In 2012, Powell led the Rams to a 10-win season, and made the program's first appearance in the NAIA National Tournament opening round. The Rams played No. 7 University of Mobile to a 0-0 draw before Mobile advanced in penalty kicks (7-6). The following year Powell's team came within one win of matching the school's single season record, finishing at 13-6-1.

Powell came to Texas Wesleyan from Northwood University where he served as head women’s soccer coach for two seasons (2009-10). He led the Knights to an overall record of 26-9-1 and a perfect 15-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play during his tenure. The Knights won back-to-back regular season RRAC Championships. In 2010, Northwood won the RRAC tournament championship, advanced to the NAIA National Tournament, and Powell was named RRAC Coach of the Year. Powell coached 12 all-conference players including the 2009 Player of the Year. In both seasons, his teams featured the conference newcomer of the year.

Powell’s collegiate coaching career began in 2002 when he served as the lead assistant for the Richland College men’s program that won the NJCAA National Championships. After two seasons at Richland, his career continued as an assistant with the St. Mary’s University men and women’s programs (2004-05), and as the head coach of the Eastfield College women’s team (2005-06).

Powell was an assistant coach at Ursuline Academy of Dallas from 2001-2003, where he won two 5A State Championships. He has coached club for Solar Soccer Club (Dallas), Dallas Texans Soccer Club and Andromeda FC-West. From 2010-12, Powell also spent time as head coach and general manager of the women’s semi-pro team, American Eagles of the WPSL. In 2012, the team advanced to the regional finals and lost in a double overtime battle.

Powell holds a NSCAA Premier Diploma, a USSF National "B" License, and a USSF Youth National License. He played college soccer at Richland College and Texas A&M International.

After college, he played four years in the USL PDL League for the Texas Spurs, the Laredo Heat and the Rowdies.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Wayland Baptist in management with a minor in health studies and is working on his master’s degree in sports administration from the University of Miami.

Powell lives in Trophy Club with his wife, Crystal, their son, Trent (9), and their daughters, Camryn (6) and Téadora (2).
