Prospective Student-Athlete Information - Women's Golf

We are excited about your interest in the University of North Texas and Mean Green women's golf. Michael Akers, who led the Texas State Bobcats to six NCAA Regional appearances and was recently named Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year, was named head coach of the Mean Green in the spring of 2016.

Quick Hits On North Texas
The Mean Green soccer team led the way for North Texas Athletics during the 2015-16 season, winning the Conference USA regular-season title and the tournament championship. Soccer also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in school history. Men’s golf and track and field also saw post-season play. The men’s golf team received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, while Chastity Stewart advanced to the NCAA Championships in two events: the 100 and 400-meter hurdles.

Forty-two Mean Green student-athletes were named all-conference during the 2015-16 season, and six received specialty conference awards. Carnae Dillard was named an AVCA honorable mention All-America selection after a stellar senior campaign. She was named Conference USA Player of the Year for the second straight year after breaking school records in career kills and attacks.

Rachel Holden was named the C-USA Co-Offensive Player of the Year for soccer, while teammate Karla Pineda was named midfielder of the year. The swimming and diving program picked up two big honors: Claudia Kitching was named C-USA Co-Newcomer of the Year, while Averie Ruiz was named freshman diver of the year. Ian Snyman was named C-USA Freshman of the Year for golf after tying for sixth place in the conference tournament.

The Women's Golf Coaching Staff
Please note that, per NCAA rules, coaches can only respond via e-mail to juniors (after September 1) and seniors in high school. Coaches must mail responses to freshmen and sophomores, per NCAA rules. You can call any North Texas coach, but they cannot return your phone call unless you are a senior in high school.

Facilities
The Mean Green golf teams worked out at a new indoor practice facility in 2006. Located on Bonnie Brae Avenue across from the athletic center, the Mean Green Softball and Golf Facility houses indoor putting and driving areas. This facility allows athletes from the softball and golf programs to hone their skills in the comfort of a climate controlled indoor practice range. For golf, the facility houses two net enclosed driving ranges and a putting green with full length wall mounted mirrors to help coaches and athletes monitor swinging motion.

The North Texas golf teams practice on some of the finest golf courses in the area, including Oakmont Country Club, Tour 18, Lantana Golf Course, Robson Ranch, Trophy Club, Golf Club at Champions Circle and Bridlewood Country Club.

Academic Athletic Services
In the Fall of 2005, the academic and compliance staff relocated to the Mean Green Village. Located on Bonnie Brae, the new Student-Athlete Development Center is three times the size of the former academic center. The Center serves as the cornerstone of the Mean Green Village and is only a short walk from the surrounding sports facilities.
