Nov. 18, 2013
DENTON, Texas – North Texas women’s golf coach Jeff Mitchell has announced the signings of Abigail Shaddix, Devin Edwards and Taylor Chaffin to a National Letter of Intent for 2014. Shaddix is from Garden City, Kansas, Edwards hails from Frisco, Texas and Chaffin is from McKinney.
Shaddix will be joining the program at the mid-term and be with the team for the spring season of 2014.
“Abbi is a very talented golfer and she has demonstrated a lot of skill in tournaments with four top-15 finishes in AJGA events,” Mitchell said. “She is ranked in fifth in Kansas and has a very promising future.”
Shaddix was a three-time Kansas 6A Regional Champion and State runner-up this fall. Edwards has had four top-10 finishes this year including a 6th place finish at the AJGA Preseason Junior at Brookhaven.
“If her potential is realized, Devin will be a great addition to the program and a highly successful collegiate golfer,” said Mitchell. “She is strong minded and strong willed. Those are admirable qualities in golf, as in life.”
Chaffin was first-team All-State her junior season. She finished in eighth place in the UIL Class 4A State Championship. She has won three high school tournaments, was second in the Texas State Junior and seventh low amateur in the prestigious Texas Women’s Open Championship during the summer of 2013.
“Taylor is one of the most competitive young ladies I have been around,” Mitchell said. “She is a hard worker and has a will to win. This is one of the deepest and most talented group of signees I have ever had. I can’t wait to see the impact they have on our program. It will be fun to watch the competitiveness and camaraderie that they possess as they go through their college careers.”
