DENTON, Texas (11/11/09) - North Texas head women's golf coach Jeff Mitchell announced the signing of three of the top 20 recruits in the state of Texas Wednesday afternoon. Katie Paxton (Spring, Klein Oak HS), Taylor Kilponen (The Woodlands, Woodlands HS) and Chaslyn Chrismer (San Antonio, MacArthur HS) all signed letters of intent to play for the Mean Green in 2010.
"It is an exciting time to be "Mean Green" and today it just got more exciting," Mitchell said. "In 16 years of coaching I have not signed a more impressive freshman class. These three young ladies have very impressive resumes in academics and athletics. They are great young ladies, too and Chaslyn are among the top 20 recruits in Texas. All have had numerous top finishes in nationally recognized tournaments."
Paxton is currently ranked the 13th best player in Texas and 88th in the nation according to golfweek.com. She was the winner of the 2009 Southern Texas Junior PGA Championship and has had four top 10 finishes in her last five starts. She has extensive experience in state, local and national competition.
Kilponen was recently named to the Houston Chronicle first-team all-area squad and has a 162-112-12 all-time record.
Chrismer is coming off a season in which she finished first, third and fourth respectively in her last three tournaments and boasts a national ranking of 159.
"These three players represent a tremendous amount of talent," Mitchell said. "It will be a lot of fun watching them develop and grow in golf as young women."
