EDINBURG, Tex. (11/7/05)- Powered by senior Jaclyn Golden and sophomore Lauren Cheves, the North Texas women’s golf team has the lead at the Bronc Classic heading into the final round at the Los Lagos Country Club.
Golden is in second place after a sensational second round of play that saw her shoot a season-best round of 1-under par 71. Golden shot a two round score of 148 and is four shots behind the leader heading into the final round.
Cheves tied her career-best score with an opening round of 1-under par 71. Cheves also shot a 71 at the Bronc Classic last season. She followed that up with a 78 and is tied for third place at 149 heading into the final round.
“I was very pleased with the way that we came out today,” said North Texas head coach Amber Chevrie. “The girls were aggressive out there and both Jaclyn and Lauren had good rounds and we are in a good position”.
North Texas fired an opening round of 302 and a second round score of 305. The Mean Green hold a four-shot lead over Texas State going into the third round.
Senior Andra Lancaster shot an opening round of 76 and had a second round score of 77. Sophomore Halli Richards fired a two-round score of 157 after rounds of 78 and 79.
Brooke Tanner playing in just her second tournament of the fall season fired an opening round of 84 but rebounded to shoot a second round of 80.
The final round of play begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
