Mean Green Golf Slips Into Fourth at SHSU Classic

Huntsville, TX (10-26-04) - The North Texas Women's Golf Team shot a 318 and dropped into fourth place after the final round of the Sam Houston State Ellingson Golf Classic.


The Mean Green was in second place following the first day of competition after shooting 314 and a tournament low 306 at the par 72 Waterwood National Golf Club.


Leading the Mean Green was Lauren Cheves who was able to rebound after opening the tournament with an 82. Cheves shot 73 and 74 in the second and third rounds to end in a tie for fifth place.


Jaclyn Golden shot a season low 74 in the opening round of the tournament, and was tied for fifth heading into the final round. But Golden had scores of 79 and 82 in the last two rounds and dropped into a tie for 14th.


Tara Lambright ended the tournament in a tie for 22nd place after rounds of 83, 76 and 80, and Andra Lancaster secured a tie for 24th place with rounds of 78, 78 and 84.


Paige Padgett, who won the Lady Indian Classic just two weeks ago, just missed the top 25 by two strokes. Padgett shot 80, 80 and 82 to finish in a tie for the 28.


Brooke Tanner, who played as an individual, finished in a tie for 30th place. The junior had rounds of 79, 85 and 79.


The Mean Green will return to action on November 8 at the Bronco Invitational in Edinburg, TX.
