LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The North Texas women's golf team hopes of capturing its third straight title fell short at the final day of the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate. The Mean Green shot a third round of 300 and finished alone in fifth place, behind the host and tournament champion New Mexico State.
Kelsey Kipp posted another top-10 finish despite a final round of 76. Kipp finished at 2-overpar 218 for the tournament and just four shots behind the individual champion. Addison Long just missed out on a top-10 finish by one stroke with a third-round of 75. Long finished tied for 11th place at 3-over par 219.
"Today was a tough day," said head coach Jeff Mitchell. "We struggled quite a bit and I think we were just trying a little too hard. I am disappointed in where we finished, but I am not disappointed in this team. This will be a good learning experience for us. A little adversity can go a long way."
Chandra Alexander had the best round of the day for the Mean Green with an even-par score of 72. She climbed into the top-20 to finish in 19th place. Freshman Taylor Kilponen and Chaslyn Chrismer had final rounds of 77. Kilponen shot a 231 and Chrismer a 234. Freshman Katie Paxton, playing as an individual, closed out with a 79 in the third round.
North Texas returns to action on Oct. 30-Nov. 2 at the Pat Bradley Invitational.
