LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Powered by Kelsey Kipp and Addison Long, the North Texas women's golf team inched their way up the leaderboard and are in contention after the second round of the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate.
The Mean Green shot a second round of 292 and is tied for fourth place with a 588, just eight shots off the lead after 36 holes. North Texas is tied with Mississippi State, one shot behind UTEP, and eight being co-leaders New Mexico State and Baylor.
"Yesterday I mentioned that we have to do a better job on the greens and I thought that we did just that today," said head coach Jeff Mitchell. "I really think that the team is learning a lot as we go along this week. We still didn't hit it as crisp as we did in the first two tournaments, but we are hanging in there. I like where we have put ourselves with one round to play."
Kipp skyrocketed through the field with a second round of 2-under par 70 and she is tied for second place, only two shots off the lead going into tomorrow. Kipp is 2-under par for the tournament at 142 as Jaclyn Jansen of Baylor holds a two-stroke lead over her at 140. Only seven players in the field are under-par after the first two-rounds.
Long posted her second straight even-par round of 72 as she is even-par for the tournament at 144, just four shots off the lead. Long is tied for eighth place after two rounds.
Chandra Alexander and Taylor Kilponen both shot rounds of 3-over par 75. Alexander is at 151 after two rounds while Kilponen is at 154.
Chaslyn Chrismer posted a second-round of 81 and she has a score of 157 after two rounds.

The final round of the tournament begins tomorrow morning.
