JONESBORO, AR (10/12/04) - Freshman Paige Padgett's playoff win propelled the Mean Green Women's Golf Team to an overall victory at the Lady Indian Classic.
Padgett shot a career low round of 75, and sunk a key birdie in the first playoff hole to give the Mean Green an overall score of 309 at the rain shortened tournament.
The win is the Mean Green's second individual victory this season, but is the program's first team win since February of 2001 at the Oral Roberts Invitational.
It is also head coach Cindi Padgett's first win since taking over in 2002.
"I am very thrilled with the way the girls came out and competed today," said Cindi Padgett. "What is really exciting is that I have a group of girls that feel they could have played better."
Lauren Cheves and Jaclyn Golden each had excellent rounds, tying for third place after both shot a 77.
Andra Lancaster, who won the Chip-N-Club Invitational last month, shot an 80, and Tara Lambright scored an 81.
Rain cancelled the tournament's opening rounds of competition on Monday, forcing the teams to vie for the championship in only a single round.
The Mean Green Women's Golf Team will return to action on October 25 at the Ellingson-SHSU Invitational in Huntsville, Texas.
