LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Three players in the top-20 individually has the North Texas women's golf team alone in fourth place after the opening round of the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate. Addison Long is tied for ninth place while Jacey Chun and McKenzie Ralston are tied for 16th place after 18 holes.
North Texas shot a 5-over par 293 and the Mean Green is only six shots back of the clubhouse leader Long Beach State after the first round.
"I am very pleased with our performance today," said head coach Jeff Mitchell. "We managed to keep ourselves within reach of the top teams. We can play better, too. I think we learned a lot today and hopefully we can put that to good use tomorrow and Wednesday.
Long shot an even-par round of 72 with five birdies on the day and is three strokes behind the clubhouse leader. Chun and Ralston are 1-over par after firing a 73. Kelsey Kipp shot a 3-over par 75 and Chaslyn Chrismer a 4-over par 76.
North Texas led the entire field on the day with 15 birdies. North Texas is three shots behind Idaho, and four behind second place Baylor. The second round continues tomorrow morning.
