LAS CRUCES, NM (10/8/03) -- Junior Laura Rakel saved her best for last when she fired a team-low 76 to lead the North Texas women's golf team Wednesday in the final round of the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate tournament.
The Mean Green finished in 16th place in the team standings with Rakel, who trimmed six strokes off her scores from the first two rounds of the three-day tournament at the par 72 New Mexico State University Golf Course, had the best individual finish for North Texas with a tie for 55th.
Rakel opened the tournament with consecutive rounds of 82 before bouncing back on Wednesday to shoot a four over par 76. She finished the tournament with a 240 total, one stroke in front of Andra Lancaster (81-83-77--241) and four ahead of Tara Lambright (79-83-82--244) for the Mean Green.
Also for North Texas, Kasey Hardin finished with rounds of 82-85-81--248, Jaclyn Golden had a 86-80-87--253 and Brooke McCutchen turned in a 87-85-81--253.
Oklahoma captured the team championship with a three-round total of 888 -- two strokes ahead of runner-up Baylor -- while Kansas State's Christine Boucher won the individual honors by shooting the tournament's only sub-par total of 75-71-67--213.
