Las Cruces, NM (10/05/04) - The North Texas Women's Golf Team saved their best round for last, shooting a season low 309 in the final round of the Price's Give 'Em Five Invitational in Las Cruces, NM.
The late charge by the Mean Green, led by Lauren Cheves and Andra Lancaster, vaulted the team into 11th place after opening rounds of 313 and 315 saw North Texas in 13th.
"I am really happy with the way we finished up today," said head coach Cindi Padgett. "We were hoping to move up a few spot and the girls came out really well and did that."
Cheves's final round score of 74 tied her for 17th place overall and is a team low for the tournament. Her total score of 229 is a 23 stroke improvement over her last tournament.
Lancaster, who won the Chip-N-Club Invitational on Sept. 20, rebounded well in the last two rounds to take 46th place. Lancaster shot an 84-76-75 for a final score of 235.
Jaclyn Golden had rounds of 78-81-78 to end in a tie for 51st with a score of 237, and Paige Padgett took 64th place after shooting a 79-81-82 for a final score of 242.
Tara Lambright rounded out the field for the Mean Green with a final score of 245. Lambright had rounds of 80-79-86 to finish in 71st place.
The Mean Green Women's Golf Team will return to action on Oct. 11 at the Lady Indian Classic in Jonesboro, AR.
