Freshman Noel Leads North Texas After The First Day

LAWRENCE, Kan. (10/2/06) In a who’s who field of women’s golf, the North Texas women’s golf team is alone in fourth place after the first day of play at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational.

 

The Mean Green is two shots behind third place Notre Dame and three shots from second place after a two-round score of 627.

 

True freshman Maggie Noel battled the breezy conditions and is tied for sixth place. Noel fired an opening round of 4-over par 76 and a second round of 78 to post a score of 154.

 

Junior Lauren Cheves is tied for 16th place and two shots behind Noel and after a two-round score of 156. Halli Richards is one shot behind Cheves with 157 and tied for 22nd place.

 

Tara Lambright shot an opening round of 78 and a second round of 82 and has a score of 160 after the first two rounds. Freshman Kelsie Gray opened with an 80 in the first round, but struggled in the final 18 holes with a 90.

 

Kansas leads the field of 16 teams that features four teams from the Big XII conference, one from the Big 10, and Notre Dame.

 

The final round of play begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start from the Alvamar Golf Club.
