HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (9/25/06) - Junior Lauren Cheves made it look easy. She fired a career-low round of 3-under par 69 in the first round of the Ron Moore Invitational to lead the North Texas women's golf team.
Cheves had one of just four rounds of under 70 in the opening 18 holes of play and finished up with a 1-over par 73 in the second round and is tied for eighth place.
Cheves enters the final round just three shots off the lead. North Texas as a team found the going tough as it shot a two-round score of 619 and sits in 13th place heading into the final round.
Tara Lambright fired a 76 in the first round and a second round of 80 while Halli Richards shot a two-round score of 160. Freshman Maggie Noel opened with a 78 and followed up with a second round of 83. Jordan Rose shot an opening round of 84 and a second round of 85.
Denver leads the overall tournament which concludes with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning.
