Mean Green Golfer Wins Chip-N-Club Invitational

LINCOLN, NE (9/20/04) - North Texas' Andra Lancaster led wire-to-wire to bring home the championship trophy at the Chip-N-Club Invitational at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, NE.

 

The All-Sun Belt performer shot a nine over par 225, securing the team's fourth place finish and her first win with rounds of 74-72-79. This is the fifth top ten finish for Lancaster, and is the first victory for North Texas since Randi Gauthier took the Bobcat Desert Classic in the spring of 2003.

 

"I'm really excited for Andra because she has worked really hard for this and is very deserving," said head coach Cindi Padgett. "She came out and played hard and it's great to see her finish at the top."

 

Jaclyn Golden and Tara Lambright finished in tie for 15th place with a score of 247. Both women had their lowest scores since joining North Texas, with Golden shooting 83-80-84, and Lambright shooting 82-81-84.

 

 Lauren Cheves reeled in 24th place in her first action for the Mean Green with scores of 77-91-84.

 

Paige Padgett rounded out the field for the Mean Green with rounds of 90-88-84 for a score of 262 and 35th place.

 

"I'm really excited about the way the team played," Padgett said. "We had some first tournament jitters but we beat some teams that we needed to beat and its right where we wanted to be."

 

The Mean Green will return to action on Monday, Oct. 5 for the Price's Give 'em Five Invitational in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
