ROBSON, Texas (9/16/08) Junior Janna Golden made a late charge for the Mean Green women’s golf team and finished in second place at the North Texas Fall Classic. Golden took home the top honors for an individual in the tournament and was just four shots behind the tournament champion Nicole Forshner of Central Arkansas.
Along with the strong performance by Golden, Jordan Rose turned in a top 10 finish while battling through a nagging knee injury during the tournament. Not to be outdone true freshman Addison Long playing in her first collegiate tournament turned in a similar strong performance.
Golden’s final round of 2-over par 74 put her at 6-over par 222 for the tournament and alone in second place. Due to a back injury before the season started, Golden competed as an individual for North Texas. Rose fired a 5-over par 77 and was tied for sixth place with a 229.
Long ended tied with Rose in sixth place with a 229. She fired a final round of 78.
North Texas as a team had its best round of the tournament with a 312 to finish in sixth place. Central Arkansas won the team championship with a three-round score of 905.
Halli Richards shot a find round of 81 and was tied for 23rd with a 235. Maggie Noel had her best round of tournament with a 77 in the final round. Sophomore Chandra Alexander rebounded from a tough opening day to post a 4-over par 76. Kelsie Gray and Kyla Whittley had scores of 250 and 255 respectively.
North Texas is back in action next week at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational.
