ROBSON, Texas (9/15/08) It was an impressive start to the fall season for the North Texas women’s golf team as juniors Janna Golden and Jordan Rose along with freshman Addison Long posted top-10 finishes after the first day of the North Texas Fall Classic. Golden had the best start of all of the golfers for the Mean Green as she posted a two-round score of 4-over par 148 and is alone in third place after the first 36 holes.
Golden shot an opening round of 76 and rebounded with even-par round of 72. She enters the final round just one shot behind co-leaders Nicole Forshner and Rebecca Sorensen of Central Arkansas.
Rose had a two-round score of 152 with rounds of 75 and 77. She is tied for seventh place with Long, who playing in her first Division I tournament show veteran type poise in the first 36 holes. Long shot an opening round of even-par 72 before faltering a bit in the second round with an 80. She, along with Rose, is five shots behind the leaders heading into the third round.
Senior Halli Richards shot a 154 and is tied for 12th place. Kelsie Gray and Maggie Noel struggled in the opening day with identical scores of 84 and 81 in the first and second rounds. Sophomore Chandra Alexander rebounded from a difficult opening round of 89 to shoot a second round of 80.
The Mean Green as a team are alone in seventh place after shooting a 318 in the first round, followed up by a 317. Central Arkansas leads the way with a first day score of 605.
The final round of the North Texas Fall Classic begins tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
