DENTON (9/12/06) The Mean Green women’s golf team won its first tournament of the season, capturing the North Texas Classic on Tuesday afternoon at Robson Ranch.

“I think it’s a great start to the season,” said North Texas head coach Amber Chevrie. “All the girls played well. We need still need to work on fine-tuning our short game, but overall I am proud of them. Lauren is such a great competitor. She was the mode of consistency.”

Junior Halli Jo Richards shot a two-over-par 74 in the third round to finish tied for fourth overall. Freshman Maggie Noel rounded out the top 10 for the Mean Green with a sixth-place finish. After shooting a 74 and a 75 in the first and second rounds, Noel fired a 78 in the final 18 to finish third on the team.
