Mean Green Women's Golf To Tee Off 2016-17 Season Monday
North Texas Opens The Fall Season Monday At Red Raider Invitational
LUBBOCK, Texas - North Texas women's golf gets the fall season underway Monday with day one of the Red Raider Invitational at the Rawls Course in Lubbock. It marks a new beginning for the program under new head coach Michael Akers, which is ready to trend upward. The Mean Green lineup for the two-day, 54 hole event is comprised of sophomore New Mexico transfer Sol Lee, sophomore Kalli Jennings, junior Nyca Khaw, sophomore Samantha Huang and freshman Elena Kim.
"This is a group where the potential is there," Akers said last week. "It's just a matter of bringing that potential out and creating excitement. There's no question that there's excitement with this group and there's a lot of competition to get into the top five through our qualifying. When you're able to create that type of competition during qualifying, then you get to the tournament and things go better. Having to prove yourself every time we approach a tournament is only going to make them better."
The two-day tournament will begin Monday from Rawls (par 72), as the teams will play 36 holes and open at 8:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. A strong field is in Lubbock, including host Texas Tech, Augusta, Central Arkansas, Cincinnati, East Tennessee State, Iowa, Kennesaw State, New Mexico State, North Florida, Oregon, Princeton, Santa Clara, Tulsa and Wichita State.
