Women's Golf Stands In Second Place At North Texas Classic

DENTON (9/11/06) The North Texas women’s golf team was one stroke behind the leader after one round of action at the North Texas Women’s Golf Classic on Monday afternoon at Robson Ranch. The second round of play was suspended due to bad weather and will commence on Tuesday morning.


The Mean Green stood in second place with a score of 298, one stroke behind McLennan Community College. Lauren Cheves was the North Texas team leader, tying for second overall with a round of 73. McLennan’s Ida Svenningsson was the overall leader with a first-round score of 71.


Freshman Maggie Noel and Halli Jo Richards both stood in fifth place with a score of 74.


Seven teams are competing in the 2006 North Texas Women’s Golf Classic. McLennan CC, Cal Poly, Texas State, UTSA, UTPA and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi are competing in the two-day tournament.


The second round will start at 8:30 am on Tuesday morning at Robson Ranch.
