Akers Announces 2017-18 Schedule, Highlighted By Bruzzy Challenge
Mean Green Will Host Tournament At Maridoe Next April
DENTON - The schedule for the 2017-18 North Texas women's golf program was released Monday, head coach Michael Akers announced.
"I am very excited and proud to release our schedule for the upcoming season," Akers said. "Golf scheduling is complex and vital to recruiting as well as ranking. This schedule shows our commitment to play against the best competition and shows where our program is heading. I am not trying to build the best program in CUSA, I am trying to build a program that can compete at the National Championship."
The Mean Green open the fall season at the University of Minnesota on Sept. 11 and 12, where the Mean Green take on a field including USC, Georgia, BYU, Kansas State, Kansas, Virginia Tech, Louisville and Michigan State in St. Paul.
The following week, North Texas travels to Kansas State in Manhattan, Kansas, from Sept. 17-19 before heading to the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, from Oct. 2-4. The Mean Green wind down the fall season with trips to the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational in San Antonio from Oct. 22-24 and finish in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, at an event hosted by Baylor from Nov. 3-5. The Mean Green will take on the likes of hosts Baylor, Texas, Auburn, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Ohio State, North Carolina, UNLV, Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Wake Forest, Houston, Tulane, Purdue and San Diego State.
The spring component of the schedule kicks off with a tournament hosted by the University of Houston in The Woodlands, Texas, from Feb. 26-27. North Texas then travels to The University of Florida in Gainesville from March 10-11 before a trip to Tucson for an event jointly hosted by the University of Missouri and Kansas State, from March 23-25.
The Mean Green then host the inaugural Bruzzy Challenge at their new home, Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, where they will take on Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Missouri, Kansas State, TCU, Iowa, Boston College, Iowa State, BYU, SMU, San Diego State, Houston and UTSA from April 2-3.
Postseason dates are scheduled for April 16-18 in Fort Myers, Florida, for the Conference USA Championship, the NCAA Regionals from May 7-9 and the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Stillwater, Oklahoma, at Karsten Creek Golf Club from May 18-23.
