Gauthier Qualifies For The U.S. Women's Open

DENTON, Tex. (6/15/06) Former North Texas standout Randi Gauthier has qualified for the 61st U.S. Women’s Open, which will be played June 29-July 2 at Newport (R.I.) Country Club. Gauthier made the field of 156 by qualifying at the Heathrow, Fla. sectional with a two-round score of 151.

Gauthier had one of the most accomplished careers at North Texas from 2000-03. Gauthier earned Sun Belt All-Conference honors in 2002 and 2003 as she is one of just five North Texas women’s golfers to be a two-time all-conference selection.

Gauthier had an incredible run during her senior season, winning four tournament titles and posting eight top-five finishes in the 12 events she competed in. She was selected as an individual competitor to the NCAA Central Regional in 2002 and 2003.

In what has been a very successful year for Mean Green golfers, along with Gauthier making the U.S Open, former North Texas golfer Nina Reis earned her LPGA Tour Card in January.

Newport Country Club is set up at 6,564/6,616 yards and par is 71. This will be the first time the Women’s Open will be conducted in Rhode Island.
