Akers Adds Audrey Tan To Signing Class
Tan Becomes Fourth Addition For Mean Green Heading Into Fall
DENTON - Head coach Michael Akers announced the addition of Audrey Tan to the Mean Green women's golf program Thursday.
"I am thrilled to have Audrey join our team this August," Akers said. "I am getting a serious case of deja vu as the pieces are falling into place as they did at my last program. Audrey is a serious student and a serious golfer. She earned practically straight A's in high school and her golf game has taken off in the past year-and-a-half."
Tan, a native of Malaysia, will be joining the North Texas program at the age of 17. Over the course of the last four years, she has amassed four wins, 20 top-five finishes and two more that were inside the top-10 during her youth career.
"With the addition of Audrey we now have depth, and qualifying will be intense to see who earns spots on the traveling squad," Akers said. "Good teams become even better when there is competition at home. Needless to say I am very excited for next season."
Tan's wins have come in 2017 at the Champion of Champions tournament, the 2017 TPC KL Junior tournament, the 2016 Champion of Champions tournament and the 2015 Negeri Sembilan Amateur Open.
The Mean Green are positioned well to continue their ascension as a program heading into 2018-19. They will return three of five members that were in the lineup in every tournament this past season and also add fellow newcomers: freshman Patty Sinolungan, sophomore Kentucky transfer Claire Cameron and sophomore Madison Lewis in the fall.
