Richards Leads North Texas In Final Round

ST. GEORGE, Utah (4/5/05) The North Texas women’s golf team closed out play in the final round of the BYU Dixie Classic with a 324 to finish tied for ninth place with a two-round score of 660. Rain and high winds forced the tournament to be shortened to just two rounds of play from the Entrada Snow Canyon Country Club.

“Things were a bit tough out there but we knew that it was going to be that way coming into this tournament. We squared off against some of the best teams in the nation and I think that this will be a great learning experience for our girls,” said North Texas head coach Cindi Padgett.

The Mean Green shaved 12 strokes off its first round score in the second round, led by freshman Halli Richards who fired a 4-over par 76 in the final round. Richards finished tied for 16th place with a two-round score of 160.

Junior Andra Lancaster was one stroke behind Richards and finished tied for 19th place after a final round of 80. Jaclyn Golden closed out the tournament with a final round of 85 and finished tied for 40th place.

Tara Lambright had a strong final round as she cut nine strokes off her opening round score and finished with a two-round score of 175.  Freshman Paige Padgett shot a second round score of 89 and ended at 179 for the tournament.

North Texas will have one final tune-up before the Sun Belt Conference Championship, next week at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic on April 10-11.
