Golden And Lancaster In The Top Ten After First Round

ST. GEORGE, Utah (4/4/05) Fierce conditions and a difficult golf course welcomed the North Texas women’s golf team at the first round of the BYU Dixie Classic as the Mean Green fired an opening round of 336 and are tied for seventh place from the Entrada Snow Canyon Country Club. 


Junior’s Andra Lancaster and Jaclyn Golden are tied for ninth place after opening rounds of 81. All 77 players in the field shot over par in the first round as Lancaster and Golden are only six shots behind the leader heading into the second round.


“It was really tough out there today, but the girls really fought through that,” said North Texas head coach Cindi Padgett. “We knew this tournament was going to be a test for us and it certainly is looking like that”.


Freshman Halli Richards is tied for 29th following her opening round of 84. Paige Padgett shot a first round of 90 while Tara Lambright shot a 92.


UNLV leads a field of 14 teams with a 320, but nine teams are separated by less than 10 strokes for second place heading into the second round. North Texas enters the second round of play tied with Oral Roberts, one shot behind Colorado, and only six shots behind second place Arkansas.


Play continues tomorrow with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
