Mean Green Open Web.Com Intercollegiate Monday
North Texas Looks To Build Off Strong Finish At MountainView
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - The North Texas women's golf team is set to open its final tournament before the Conference USA Championships with the Web.Com Intercollegiate beginning Monday at the Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
The Mean Green enter the tournament at No. 137 in the Golfstat relative rankings, which is down an impressive 64 spots from the final ranking last season.
"We are excited to get down to Florida this week," head coach Michael Akers said. "This event was scheduled with the thought of preparing for conference tournament. Florida golf is different and takes some adjustment. Playing at sea level, wet conditions and typical wind off the ocean all must be factored in. We have been practicing on the Bermuda grass courses in the area and the recent rain has certainly helped get the courses more like those in Florida."
North Texas' lineup comprised of sophomore Sol Lee, junior Nyca Khaw, freshmen Lauren Cox and Elena Kim and junior Kalli Jennings will open the two-day event on Monday, April 3, carrying through Tuesday, April 4. The five Mean Green golfers, along with individual participant Sammy Huang, are slated to tee off in round one on Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. CT and fans can follow all of the action with live results here, courtesy of Golfstat.
"I hope we start the tournament like we finished in Arizona," Akers continued. "That was a solid round and we will remind the players of that finish."
The 54-hole event will open with the first two rounds Monday, concluding Tuesday with the third and final round.
Akers has made the number 300 a focus this season for North Texas; setting that as the target to shoot under to have successful rounds. The Mean Green have shot sub-300 on six occasions, and hit 300 exactly once more, compared to no sub-300 performances in 2015-16.
The Mean Green will compete against host Jacksonville, Campbell, Central Arkansas, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Delaware, East Tennessee State, FIU, Georgia State, James Madison, North Florida, Sam Houston State, South Florida and Texas State.
