North Texas in 9th After Day 1 in Hawaii

HONOLULU, Hawaii-  The North Texas woman's golf team returned to tournament action Tuesday in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Hawaii. The team shot an identical 311 in both of the first two rounds putting them in ninth place at 46 over-par and 20 shots off the lead. The field includes two top-25 teams in No. 12 Texas A&M and No. 24 UC Davis.

Individually leading the way for the Mean Green in round one was Senior Jacey Chun who recorded four birdies, starting off the tournament at four over-par. She would struggle in round two by only finding one birdie to go along with six bogeys. Currently Chun sits tied for 40th.

After the first two rounds Senior Addison Long places the highest for North Texas tied for 13th and only nine strokes off the leader, as she finds herself at nine over par. Long was the most consistent Mean Green golfer on day one ending the first round at four over-par and five over in round two.

Freshman McKenzie Ralston did not have one of her best outings after she was one of the top golfers in the last two spring tournaments. She finished round one at eight over-par and round two at nine over. Ralston did finish the first four holes of round two at one under-par after a birdie on her second green, but after three bogeys in a row following hole 5 Ralston only managed one more birdie on the day.

Sophomore Chaslyn Chrismer had a nice outing finishing at 11 over-par and tied for 28th while senior Kelsey Kipp is tied with Ralston at 58th.

Gonzaga leads the field of 14 at 26 over-par followed by No. 12 Texas A&M at 27 over.

The girls tee off the third and final round Wednesday March 14th.
