GOODYEAR, Ariz. (3/6/06) The North Texas women’s golf team sits in second place after an opening round of 307 at the Bobcat Desert Classic from the Palm Valley Golf Club.
The Mean Green is six shots behind the clubhouse leader Sacramento State in the field 16 teams.
“I was happy with the way that we came and competed hard today,” said North Texas head coach Amber Chevrie. “I know that we are capable of playing the way that we did today and I’m really excited about the next two rounds”.
North Texas has four players in the top 12 after the first round of play. Senior Andra Lancaster shot an opening round of 76 and is tied for ninth place, three strokes off the lead.
Three Mean Green players shot a 77 in the first round. Jaclyn Golden, Brooke Tanner, and Christine Shimon all had opening rounds of 77. Halli Richards is just two strokes behind the trio after a first round of 79.
The second round of play begins tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.
