Women's Golf Falls In Playoff At Islander Classic

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (3/2/10) - The Mean Green women's golf team battled to the end Tuesday at the Islander Classic in hopes of their second tournament victory of the season, however it was Tulsa that took the honor by beating North Texas in a playoff.

North Texas entered the day with a three shot lead for first place but finished three shots off Monday's pace (303) by shooting a 306 on Tuesday, winding up with a three-day total of 924 (+60).

A Mean Green victory would have marked the first time they had won two tournaments in a season since the 2004-05 campaign.

Kelsey Kipp continued to be the most consistent player for the Mean Green by shooting a 4-over par 76 and finished in three-way tie for fifth place individually (+13, 229). Sophomore Addison Long entered the day in second place but fell off that pace by finishing tied for fifth as well with an 80 on Tuesday and a 13-over par for the tournament.

Senior Jordan Rose managed to crack the top 10 by shooting a 77 on the final day for a three-day final total of 231 (+15).

Other North Texas competitors included Maggie Noel (23rd, +22), Janna Golden (42nd, +29) and Chandra Alexander (*10th, +15), who competed unattached.

Oral Roberts' Amber Hensley finished first overall individually with a three-day score of 221 and a 5-over par for the tournament.

The Mean Green will take to the course once again Mar. 14-16 when they travel to Honolulu, Hawaii for the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational.
