Mean Green Fire A 292, Finish In Second

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - North Texas saved its best for the final round at the Islander Springs Classic as the Mean Green shot the low round of the day with a 292, but fell just short and finished in second place. The Mean Green began the day in fifth place, but the 4-over par round sent them up the leaderboard, but Oral Roberts was able to hold off North Texas and win the tournament by four strokes.

It is the sixth straight top-five finish for North Texas and their fifth top-three finish of the season. North Texas had all five players in the top-25 and four finished in the top-20.

Sophomore Jacey Chun led the way with a final round of 1-over par 73 to finish in a tie for eighth place.  One shot behind Chun was true freshman Taylor Kilponen who shot a final round of 78 but posted a 227 for the tournament and finished in 12th place.

Chandra Alexander battled back from a tough opening round to shoot back-to-back rounds of 73 and finish in 15th place. Alexander shot a 228 for the tournament.

Addison Long had the best round of the day for North Texas and the only round under-par the entire tournament for the Mean Green with a 71. Her 1-under par round was tied for the lowest score on the day.

Kelsey Kipp carded a final round of 75 and finished tied for 24th. The Mean Green is back in action on March 7-9 at the UNLV Spring Invitational.
