DENTON, Texas (2/27/10) - The North Texas women's golf team will kickoff the spring season this Sunday when they travel to Corpus Christi, TX to take part in the Islander Classic (Feb. 28-Mar. 2).
The Mean Green will be playing at the Par-72, 6,105-Yard Corpus Christi Country Club and join a field of 11 teams which will consists of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Houston Baptist, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston St., UT-Pan America, Tulsa, McNeese St., Stephen F. Austin, UTEP, UMKC and McLennan Community College College.
"The field is really good," North Texas head coach Jeff Mitchell said. "This is a great place to start the spring. It will also be a good barometer of where we stand and the progress we have made."
North Texas will have six players in action, which include Jordan Rose, Kelsey Kipp, Janna Golden, Addison Long, Maggie Noel and Chandra Alexander (Ind.).
The Mean Green wrapped up the fall season with some momentum, finishing first at the Shocker Invitational and fifth at the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational.
"The team has been working very hard and is ready to go," Mitchell said. "After setting a couple of all-time school records in the fall, the team is looking forward to getting back into competition." Jordan Rose is only .3 strokes away from the 18-hole stroke average record. Janna Golden and Addison Long both had under par rounds in the fall and can't wait to do it again."
The tournament will get underway tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Monday's action is slated for a 10 a.m. tee time with Tuesday again at 8:30 a.m.
