Richards In The Top 5 After Day 1 Of Islander Classic

CORPUS CHRISTI, Tex. (2/25/08) North Texas junior golfer Halli Richards is in the hunt for the top spot after first day of the Ed Hicks Nissan Islander Classic. Richards shot an opening round of 1-over par 73 and finished the day with a two-round score of 152. She is tied for fourth place with one other player.


Richards enters the final round of the tournament just five shots behind the leader Channing Norton of Lamar University.


North Texas as a team shot an opening round of 317 and followed that up with a 319 and is alone in sixth place after the first day. The Mean Green is grouped tightly with three other schools and they enter the final round just 10 shots behind the third place team.


Janna Golden and Maggie Noel had identical scores of 161 after the first two rounds. Jordan Rose was two shots behind with a score of 163 and freshman Kirsten Spittler had a tough time with a two-round score of 171.


The final round of the Islander Spring Classic begins tomorrow at 8 a.m.
