North Texas Golf Closes Out Strong In Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. (2/25/04)- The North Texas women's golf team finished the final round at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational with the best round of the week paced by a 77 from junior Laura Rakel at the Arizona National Country Club. The Mean Green shot a final round 328, five strokes better than their second round performance.

"We came out today and made some shots and were really able to compete with a lot of the other teams here," said North Texas head coach Jim Bob Jackson. "I think that the girls came out here looking to improve against some of the best competition in the country and we were able to do that".

Rakel ended the tournament with a three-round score of 244 after her final round 77. Sophomore Jaclyn Golden shot a third round 79 and posted the best score of the tournament for North Texas at 241. Andra Lancaster and Christine Shimon both shot final rounds of 86. Vanderbilt won the team competition with a three round score of 869.

North Texas returns to action on March 5-6 at the East/West Rio Verde Invitational in Scottsdale, Ariz.
