Mean Green Finish Third In Strong Start To The Spring

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (2/24/09) It’s the kind of start North Texas women’s head coach Jeff Mitchell was looking for this spring. The Mean Green women’s golf team shot the second best round of the day with a 307 to climb the standings and finish in third place at the Stripes Islander Invitational. North Texas had a three-round score of 936 for its best start to spring season since the 2005-06 year.

"I am pleased with the results of this tournament. We have put a lot of work in so far this spring and it is nice to see that effort pay off,” Mitchell said. “I congratulate Jordan Rose and Maggie Noel on some consistent, solid golf.”

Noel and Rose had top 10 scores for the tournament finishing seventh and eighth respectively. Noel shot a 3-over par 75 third round to post her best finish in a tournament since her freshman season. She had a three-round score of 229. Rose vaulted herself into the top 10 with her third round score of 2-over par 74. Rose finished tied for eighth place with a score of 230.

Freshman Addison Long fell back after a strong opening two rounds with a 79 on the last day. Janna Golden recovered from a tough start yesterday with a strong final round of 2-over par 74. Kelsie Gray closed her tournament out with a final round of 84.

The Mean Green is back in action on March 16-17 at the Baylor Spring Invitational.
