Women's Golf Ready To Begin Spring Season

DENTON, Texas (2/23/09) The North Texas women’s golf team is ready to begin the spring season as they travel down to Corpus Christi to compete in the Islander Spring Classic. Following a renewed excitement after the fall season led by first-year head coach Jeff Mitchell, the Mean Green is ready to continue making strides heading into the spring season.

“We are really excited to get back into tournament golf.  After improving throughout the fall schedule, we are looking forward to continuing that trend.  Rockport Country Club is a golf course that can give up some low rounds.  It is modest length with the focus on accuracy off the tee and a strong short game.  We have been working on both of those aspects of the game over the past few weeks,” said head coach Jeff Mitchell.

North Texas takes a lineup of four juniors and one freshman to the Islander Spring Classic. Jordan Rose, Maggie Noel, Janna Golden, Kelsie Gray, and Addison Long will head to the coast to start the season off for North Texas.

Long looks to carry over her sensational debut as a freshman in the fall while Coach Mitchell knows his team will rely heavily on the experience that his line has.

“This tournament could really set the tone for the spring.  It is important that we stay focused and composed.  In golf, confidence is an essential ingredient.  A strong showing in this event can go a long way in setting up a successful spring,” said Mitchell.

The tournament begins today at 8:15 a.m. with a shotgun start with the first two rounds being played.
