TUCSON , Ariz. ( 2/23/04 )- The North Texas women’s golf team opened up play in blustery conditions at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational from the Arizona National Golf Club. The Mean Green shot 337 in the first round of the tournament in a field that includes eight teams ranked in the top 25 in the country.
“There are a couple of girls who could have shot in the 70’s today but this is a very tough course,” said North Texas head coach Jim Bob Jackson. “I saw a lot of good things out there today but we are going up against some big time competition which will hopefully help us get better as a team”.
Jaclyn Golden led the way for North Texas with an opening round of 80. Laura Rakel fired an 83 and freshman Tara Lambright was one stroke behind her with an 84.
North Texas continues play in the Arizona Wildcat Invitational tomorrow with the second round starting at 8 a.m.
