VICTORIA, Texas - In the opening tournament of the spring season, the North Texas women's golf team has three players in the top-10 as play was suspended due to darkness late in the second round at the first day of the Claud Jacobs Invitational. Kelsey Kipp, Jacey Chun, and Addison Long have powered North Texas as they sit in third place, eight shots behind Texas State for the overall lead.
"I wasn't sure what to expect of the team with the weather issues and lack of practice," said head coach Jeff Mitchell. "But, all in all, I am please with the way we have competed. We have a lot of work to do to handle wind and fast greens, but I am confident that we will. We are all looking forward to playing again tomorrow and putting ourselves in a position to win"
Kipp and Chun are tied for third while Long is tied for ninth place. Play was suspended as North Texas will have three holes to complete the second round tomorrow before starting the final round.
Chun, a sophomore playing in her first tournament for North Texas, shot an opening round of 76 and is at two-over par through 14 holes of her second round.
She is tied for third with teammate Kelsey Kipp who fired an identical first-round score of 76 and is 1-over par through 15 holes of her second round. They are both just two shot off the lead.
Long shot a 76 in her first round and had an eagle in her second round as she is 4-over par through 15 holes.
Chandra Alexander shot an 82 in the first round and is 8-over par through 15 holes in the second round while Chaslyn Chrismer opened with an 81 and is 11-over through 15 holes.
North Texas shot an opening round of 309 and is two shots ahead of Tulsa and looking to rally from behind tomorrow for the team's fourth tournament win of the year.
The second round will conclude tomorrow and the third and final round will begin immediately afterwards. Live stats can be found at www.golfstat.com
