Nov. 2, 2014

SARASOTA, Fla – Three players are in the top-20 and in contention after the opening round of play for the North Texas women’s golf team at the 37th Annual FIU/Pat Bradley Invitational. Led by Maraea Durie and Eji Kwon, the Mean Green as a team is in fifth place after the first 18 holes of play.

Durie is tied for ninth place after she opened and closed her round with bookend birdies. She birdie the first and last hole, while putting in two more birdies on the day and shot a 1-over par 73. Kwon is one stroke behind in a tie for 12th place after a steady round of 2-over par. Kwon didn’t post a birdie, but had 16 pars on the day, including 14 straight after back-to-back bogeys.

Laura DeLeonardis is tied for 18th place after a 4-over par 76 on the day. She equaled Durie with four birdies on the day, but a triple bogey on the 14th hole tripped her up.

Freshman Nyca Khaw and Abbi Shaddix are in 55th place and 60th place after shooting rounds of 82 and 84 on the day.

NT shot a 17-over par 305 on the day. Memphis is the clubhouse leader after the first 18 holes after shooting an even-par round of 288.
