Oct. 28, 2014

LAS VEGAS – Sophomore Eji Kwon fought back from a difficult opening round shoot a 1-under par 71 at the final round of the Las Vegas Invitational to pace the Mean Green women’s golf team. Kwon, who shot an 83 on Sunday, rebounded on the final day with three birdies, 14 pars and only one blemish, a double bogey on the round. She finished tied for 53rd place.

“I am so proud of Eji (Kwon) and how she played,” said head coach Jeff Mitchell. “After a rough start she stayed strong and played great. Regardless of our scores and our finish I am proud of this team. We are young and playing a new course at each event. We will learn from this.”

Maraea Durie shot a 4-over par 76 on the final day but closed very strong. Durie opened with a triple bogey, and was at 7-over par at one point, but she reeled off four birdies in five holes to play the front nine holes at 1-under par.

Freshman Abbi Shaddix shot a final round of 78 on the day and had three birdies on the round. Nyca Khaw and Laura DeLeonardis both had third-round scores of 8-over par.

North Texas as a team shot a 305 on the day, their best round of the tournament, but couldn’t climb up from the 18th spot in which they began the day.
