Khaw Paces Mean Green In Final Round Of Minnesota Invite

Sept. 12, 2017

WOODBURY, Minnesota - Senior Nyca Khaw had the best day for the Mean Green during the final round of the Minnesota Invitational at Prestwick Golf Club, firing a two-over-par 74. The Mean Green posted their third-lowest single round with their three-under-par second round performance Monday, but finished Tuesday in 13th place at 29-over.

"We are certainly disappointed in our round today," head coach Michael Akers said. "Obviously there has to be some mental aspects to look at. We have to take away positives from the second round and looking back at the scores we shot last year at our first event, the team is certainly in a better spot. I'm happy we have a short turnaround until we depart to Kansas State. Our goal is to win that event."

Khaw posted the team's best round of the tournament Tuesday, with her 74. Khaw finished the tournament at eight-over-par, but her final two rounds were strong; firing a 73 in round two Monday and then a 74 Tuesday. She birdied twice, on 11 and 15, respectively, while parring 13 times. Were it not for a double bogey on 13, Khaw would have been even-par for the day.

Junior Sol Lee led the way overall for North Texas, finishing the event at seven-over-par. Her 77 Tuesday tied both Lauren Cox and Sabina Pena for the second-best performance in the round for the Mean Green.

The Mean Green are back in action next week from the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational from Manhattan, Kansas, hosted by Kansas State Sunday, Sept. 17-19.
