April 23, 2014

GULF SHORES, Ala. - North Texas saved its best for last on the final day of the C-USA Championship as the Mean Green shot a season-low round of 294 to climb to eighth place. North Texas had the eighth best round of the day at 6-over par led by promising freshman Eji Kwon who shot a career best 2-under par score of 70. Kwon finished in a tie for 12th place, the best finish in a conference championship by a freshman at NT since 2002-03.

No. 34 Tulane captured its second straight C-USA title by 10 strokes over UTSA. Tulane was the only team in the field of 13 to finish under par.

For North Texas three seniors played in their final tournaments, Brooke Bailey, Chaslyn Chrismer and Taylor Kilponen, but Kwon had the low score of the day.

The freshman shot a career-low round of 2-under par, powered by three birdies and only one bogey on the day.

Chrismer, a four-year letterwinner, shot a 1-over par 73 in her final round. She finished in a tie for 25th place. Chrismer leaves NT with the second lowest recorded score in school history when she shot a 67 as a freshman in 2011

Kilponen shot a 4-over par 76 while Bailey shot her second lowest score of the year with a 5-over par 77. Laura DeLeonardis shot her best round of the championship with a score of 3-over par 75.
