GULF SHORES, Ala. – Chaslyn Chrismer and Eji Kwon got North Texas off on the right foot after the first round of the C-USA Championship as the Mean Green is in seventh place after the opening day. The pair shot a 1-over par 73, tied for 10th place after 18 holes.
North Texas as a team is 18-over par after the first day, two strokes ahead of Southern Miss and nine strokes behind Old Dominion. No. 34 Tulane has the overall team lead at 7-under par, leading UTSA by five shots.
Kwon got off to a roaring start with three birdies on her first six holes to take the individual lead early on. She fell back with a bogey on the fifth hole and a double bogey on the sixth, but closed strong with a birdie on the eighth hole. Chrismer was steady throughout the day with 13 pars and a birdie on the final hole to pull into the top-10.
Laura DeLeonardis is tied for 43rd place after posting a 79 and Taylor Kilponen is in 52nd place after firing an 81. Brooke Bailey is in 65th place after a first round of 95.
