NT In Contention For C-USA Crown After First Round
Mean Green Tied For Third Place Following 18 Holes
FORT MYERS, Fla -- It was the best round of the year for the North Texas women's golf team that has them in contention for the Conference USA title after the first-round of play. The Mean Green fired a first round of 6-over par 294 and is tied for third place, only seven strokes off the lead after the first 18 holes of play.
NT is tied with UTEP at 6-over, three shots behind UTSA and seven off the pace set by clubhouse leader MTSU.
"Today was a good day for the Mean Green," said head coach Jeff Mitchell. "I'm really proud of the entire team. Nyca with her career low, and Devin with five birdies is great. It would be great to see thsi momentum carry over into the rest of the championship."
Nyca Khaw turned in a career-low round of even-par 72 to pace the Mean Green as she is tied for ninth place. Khaw had four birdies on the day and played the front nine holes at 1-under par.
Khaw was one of three players in the top-25 for the Mean Green, freshman Devin Edwards is only one shot behind at 1-over par 73. Edwards is tied for 15th place as she birdied three of the last five holes on the day to climb the leadeboard.
